Congratulations Vanessa Montorsi, Director of Counseling, Cheshire Public Schools
Each year CSCA honors one counselor who has made significant contributions to moving the profession of school counseling forward and who has advocated to promote the academic, personal/social and career development needs of all students. Vanessa’s nominating colleague praised her commitment by stating, “Vanessa has completely changed the face of the CHS Guidance Department from the moment she walked in the building three years ago as the new Department Chair.” She also stated, “Vanessa has boundless energy and a strong desire to make positive change for the future of our schools and school counseling.”
Winners of the state awards go through a competitive review at the National level. This year, we are very proud to announce, Vanessa was selected as a semi-finalist! According to ASCA, "the School Counselor of the Year and finalists are judged by a select panel on several criteria: creative school counseling innovations, effective counseling programs, leadership skills and contributions to student enhancement."
In case you missed the live-streamed video of the ceremony held at The White House last Friday, we've posted the link here for you to enjoy http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2015/01/30/first-lady-presents-school-counselor-year-award-0. The speeches given, especially that of the First Lady, are both moving and inspiring.
As we celebrate National School Counseling Week, and are experiencing a nationally recognized movement of understanding for the work we do, we are proud to congratulate Vanessa Montorsi on this well deserved honor!
